Interview Prep
I am so excited for you to join me for an interview on Chelann Again! Here is how to set yourself up for a great podcast experience (and ways to give my listeners the best experience too!).
Setting Up On Zoom
-
You will find the Zoom link to our interview in the emails I sent you about our chat
-
Make sure you have the latest version of Zoom and if not, update it before our call
-
Before our interview, run a quick speed test to check your internet is running smoothly (the ideal is 3MB upload and download speed)
Mic and Audio Instructions
-
Please wear headphones! While earphones do work, please make sure they have a plug-in option and the microphone is working well
-
If you do have an actual podcast mic that works with your computer, please use that too
-
When you enter Zoom, please follow these audio and recording instructions:
○ Under Settings > Audio, make sure that the correct microphone and speaker are selected — if you have a USB
microphone, try tapping it to see if the “Output Level” volume meter moves
○ Next, try unchecking the box that says “Automatically adjust microphone volume” and changing the “Suppress
background noise” option from “Auto'' to “low.” If things sound awful, you can revert those options
○ Click the Advanced option at the bottom of the screen, and on the following screen: Make sure the “show
in-meeting option to enable original sound” is checked
○ Check the box that says “disable echo cancellation”
○ Check the box for “high fidelity music mode
○ Then, run a quick audio check by running a microphone and headphone check
○ Go back to the Settings main screen, and click the Recording option. Check the box that says “Record a separate
audio file for each participant who speaks
*We will test audio out at the beginning of our call, so don’t worry if you don’t get things “perfect!”
Environment
-
Find a quiet place to record and turn off any devices (like your phone) that could make noises in the background. I also suggest closing any windows nearby.
-
Be aware that tapping keyboard or your desk will be picked up by the mic and could be distracting for our listeners
-
Bring a glass of water: although we can all agree a cup of coffee is an essential, water is the best way to stay hydrated when there’s lots of talking
-
Be mindful that this is a video interview so be prepared to turn your cameras on :)
Interview Guidelines
-
There are no set interview questions! I find the most value to come from free-flowing conversations so I don't prepare my guests with specific questions beforehand. You have everything you need already inside of you. :)
-
Speak freely: our best guests are the ones that are open, real and authentic about their stories.
-
The most important thing to remember during our time together is to be present. Fully tune in the moment and let the conversation flow accordingly.
Prime Yourself - Essential!
-
I highly recommend a quick meditation session before the interview to get into state. It’s a great way to get into an
excellent headspace! Click here to listen to a guided meditation I recommend. -
Relax and enjoy the process! It’s going to be fun!
-
We will spend a few moments before the interview making sure the connection is good, getting to know each other a little better and also going over your bio! I look forward to speaking with you soon! :)
